Marga Weimans
The focus of fashion designer Marga Weimans is couture, although the designer is often considered more of an artist because of her conceptual work. Museums, galleries and art collectors are also an important target group for the work of Marga Weimans. Since her successful graduation collection ‘The Power Of My Dreams’, Weimans’ work is purchased by and exhibited at the Groninger Museum. In 2005 she designed her first collection ‘Debut’. This collection is about the start of a young fashion designer. Weimans devotes extensive energy to research and believes that the work process is essential to the development of every concept and should therefore be integrated in a great deal of her designs. With her designs she wants to tell her story about love for fashion and craft and about the obsession to create the most beautiful things. Cities and architecture play an important role in the work of the designer and this is also reflected in her upcoming collection, both in material, color and shape. The city is a backdrop for her fashion house.
Marga Weimans is a fashion house which explorers and pushes the borders of fashion by incorporating elements from various other creative disciplines, such as architecture, industrial design and fine arts. The designer graduated at the prestigious Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts with her collection “The Power Of My Dreams’ in 2005. This collection received international recognition by winning an I-D award, named after the organizing fashion magazine, and its purchase and exhibition by the Groninger Museum. Thereafter, Marga Weimans has presented several collections in Paris and participated in numerous projects, both of which were displayed in various exhibitions throughout The Netherlands and abroad. As a starting point of the design process, the designer relies on her surroundings, her ambitions and dreams, and the development of her life and fashion house. The resulting creations are characterized by a highly innovative use of materials; wood, iron, resin, semi-precious stones and fiberglass, for instance, have all been used in her creations together with self-developed fabrics and prints.
